Introduction
Welcome to the Open Cloud Rhino SLEE Administration Manual for Systems Administrators and Software Developers. This
guide is intended for use with the Open Cloud Rhino, a JAIN SLEE 1.0 compliant SLEE implementation.
This document contains instructions for installing, running, and configuring the Rhino SLEE, as well as tutorials for the included
examples. It also serves as a starting point for the development of new services for deployment into the Rhino SLEE.
A list of frequent problems and solutions can be can be found in the Troubleshooting Guide

1.1 Intended Audience
Not all chapters of this document will be relevant to all users of the Rhino SLEE. You may wish to skip ahead to the chapters
recommended below:
• If you are a Service Developer interested in building and deploying application components, then you should refer to
Chapters 3 (SLEE Overview), 4 (Getting Started), 22 (SIP Examples) and 23 (JCC Examples).
• If you are a Systems Administrator who is interested in deploying, tuning and maintaining the Rhino SLEE, see Chapters
3 (SLEE Overview) and 4 (Getting Started).
1.2 Chapter Overview
Chapter 1 introduces the Open Cloud Rhino SLEE, a carrier-grade implementation of the JAIN SLEE 1.0 specification, JSR 22.
This chapter also outlines the solution domain and integration capabilities of the Open Cloud Rhino SLEE.
Chapter 2 gives an overview of the Rhino SLEE platform.
Chapter 3 contains an introduction to the JAIN SLEE 1.0 specification, the reference for the Open Cloud Rhino SLEE. Further
background material is available from

Chapter 4 gives detailed instructions on how to install the Rhino SLEE.
Chapter 5 provides a guide to the tools used to to manage the Rhino SLEE and contains several examples using the packaged
demonstration applications.
Chapter 6 describes techniques which are performed by administrators to operate the Rhino SLEE reliably over extended periods
of time and how to respond to services which malfunction or pollute the SLEE.
Chapter 7 describes the process for exporting and importing the state of the Rhino SLEE. The export and import mechanism
are used to perform online upgrades of a cluster.
Chapter 8 details the metrics and instrumentation used to monitor Rhino SLEE and SLEE application performance.
